NIEPA visits SD College Library for Research Survey

The Department of Higher and Professional Education of the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi, team visited Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32, Chandigarh on Tuesday to carry out a research study on “Library Facilities in Indian Undergraduate Colleges and its Impact on Students’ Academic Performance”. Anjali Kujur, a research consultant, Renu Dangwal and Kavita, research project staff members, were part of the committee. They not only visited the college library and campus but also conducted and recorded interviews of students and faculty members on the college campus.  

The objective of the research study is to examine the various facets of library facilities in Indian colleges keeping in view the NAAC parameters relating to college library facilities. The aim is also to assess the impact of college library on students and their academic performance. 
Dr Ajay Sharma, Principal of the College, while welcoming the guests, emphasized on the importance of library in academics and student life. Also, how NAAC is important to identify the institutes with potential for excellence and its credibility to an institute. College Librarian Dr Gurpreet Singh, while giving vote of thanks to NIEPA team, shared his inputs and insights regarding the library facilities and related sources available to college students, especially during the COVID times.

McGraw Hill Education: FDOC Interactive Hub for Instructors’ Session on Computer Science organised at Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Chandigarh

The Library of Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma, Sector 32, Chandigarh in collaboration with McGraw Hill Education Inc. organised an online McGraw Hill Education: FDOC Interactive Hub for Instructors’ Session on Computer Science today. Mr. Rahul Kalia and Mr Himanshu Gupta, McGraw Hill Education Inc. were the resource persons.
Dr Madhu Sharma, Registrar, Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College welcomed Resource persons and stated that Instructors’ Sessions such as these are crucial for keeping students and faculty in touch with latest developments in the field of education. She further stated that GGDSD College has one of the most well equipped libraries in the region and aims to promote latest practices in library services. 
He gave an enlightening presentation wherein he highlighted the need for distribution and utilisation of products on  E-Learning platforms for students and faculty alike. Over fifty students and faculty of the college attended the event. Dr Gurpreet Sohal, Head Librarian of the college presented the vote of thanks.

Hands-on-workshop on Increasing Research Visibility and Impact organised at Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32, Chandigarh

Readers Club of College Library, Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32, Chandigarh organised an extensive workshop on Increasing Research Visibility and Impact today. 
The workshop emphasised on various aspects of academic portals like Google Scholar ID, ORCID and Vidwan ID. Dr Nirmal Singh, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana and Dr Preeti Sharda, Librarian, PGGCG 42, Chandigarh were the key speakers. 

Dr. Ajay Sharma, Principal, Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32 Chandigarh welcomed the guests and emphasised the importance of research visibility. He stated that equipping oneself with tools of research visibility is the need of the hour for academicians and scholars alike. 
Dr Nirmal Singh and Dr Preeti Sharda provided a hands-on demonstration of various academic profiles and tools. They also addressed various queries regarding optimisation of research profiles, import of data, interlinking of portals, etc. 
Over 150 faculty and scholars attended the workshop. Dr Gurpreet Singh, Head, Department of Library, Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College honoured the experts on the occasion. Dr Pratibha Kumari presented the vote of thanks.

Expert Lecture held and GGDSD IRINS Portal Launched

The Readers Club, College Library, Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32, Chandigarh organised an Expert Lecture and launched GGDSD IRINS (Indian Research Information Network System) portal on May 25, 2022. 



Dr Ajay Sharma, Principal, Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College welcomed the expert, Dr. Neeraj Kumar Singh, Deputy Librarian, Panjab University for his lecture titled 'How to Improve Research Visibility and Impact'. Dr Sharma also stated that research is an elemental tool in the quiver of any academician. However, knowing how to respond to the latest trends and increasing the outreach of one’s research is fast becoming quintessential for today’s academicians.


Dr. Gurpreet Singh Sohal, Head Librarian, gave an overview of the IRINS portal, stating that the portal helps institutions, researchers and grant agencies in analysing their research output and designing further research projects. The GGDSD IRINS Portal (https://ggdsd.irins.org/) was officially launched by Dr Ajay Sharma, Principal, Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32, Chandigarh.



Dr Neeraj’s enlightening lecture emphasised on the importance of research visibility for advancing research output and acquiring grants for research projects. He showcased various portals such as ORCID, IRINIS, Vidwan, which he recommended all researchers must register on. He further highlighted the importance of H-index and G-index. The lecture was followed by an interactive session. Dr Pratibha Kumari, Head, Department of Hindi, gave the vote of thanks.
